Me, Myself and I
In order to introduce myself, I figured there was no one better to interview me than... myself. Below are the results of said interview/schizoid fit. Enjoy.Where did you get the pen name of DC Luder?
DC Luder is actually a play on Fox Mulder's alias "MF Luder" on The X-Files. Being marginally obsessed with the show it seemed natural to take on the same alias for my pen name, substituting my initials for MF.
How long have you been writing fan fiction?
I have been writing fan fiction since the grand age of 15 but have only been posting it to the world since 2002.
You write in the first person narrative for many characters, but who is your favorite to write and why?
I think Bruce Wayne/Batman is the most interesting to write, because using the first person, you get to show what the character is thinking. Bruce, above all other characters, tends to think much more than he will say.
Aside from Batman, what other fandoms have you written in?
Although I tend to stick to writing Batman related fan fiction, I have also completed a multi-chapter X-Files fic which has a link on the "The Truth is Out There" page. I've also written a few fan fictions based on ER, Hannibal Lecter, Indiana Jones and Jonathan Kellerman novels but none are completed or posted. Yet.
How do you go about writing a fan fiction?
For my one-shot fan fictions, I often get a random inspiration, write out a very loose outline before starting in on the actual writing. Unfortunately, I either sit and write out an entire one-shot fic in one sitting or it takes months to complete it. As for my larger scale stories, I put a great deal more effort into organizing and plotting out details and developing time lines. Although it is more effort from the beginning, it pays off later on.
Which of your stories did you enjoy writing the most?
I would have to say One And Only, the third story in the Series of Three. There was so much emotional and physical strain on the Bat Family, thus allowing me to really work with the characters to portray their reactions.
Which of your stories did you enjoy writing the least?
All of them have been a learning experience. I would love to go back and re-do some of Time Will tell simply because of minor errors I made as it was my first major piece of fiction. That and I was like in high school still.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am halfway through the fourth story of the Series of Three, What Lies Ahead. I am also in the process of revamping my Ra's Al Guhl fic, Son of the Father. When that's completed, I plan on catching up on a number of one-shot stories I have started that are listed in detail on the My Fan Fiction page.
What is your favorite story arc of the Batman canon?
I actually have two favorites. Knightfall, simply because it was an emotionally challenging storyline that made Bruce more human than ever. Another favorite of mine is Hush for two reasons: Selina and Bruce finally made things official, albeit briefly, and also the beautiful artwork and writing that brought everything to life.
Will you ever write professionally?
I feel that my background with working on fan fiction has given some foundation to start working on more professional level. I would never dream of making a career out of it, but it wouldn't hurt to try and make a go of it.
Do you do anything aside from sit in front of your computer all of the time?
Surprisingly, yes. I ride, train and show Quarter Horses and teach riding lessons. When I have time or money, I like to go backpacking and camping in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter. Most of the time, I hang out with my comrades, playing cards, watching movies and reaching entertaining levels of intoxication.
Thank you for taking time to answer these questions.
No, thank you. Although I do ask that you stop making me say "Redrum" when I'm at the supermarket.
